PSG Overcomes Olympique de Marseille in a Shootout to Secure French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

Trophy celebration scene

The Parisian club has now won the prestigious cup on fourteen separate times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time leveler followed by a perfect penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in the Gulf and secure a fourth straight Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a comfortable win in the match between the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck twice in the closing moments to seize a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a vital leveler in the final moments to force the contest into a deciding shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Goncalo Ramos, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, and the young talent all converted successfully for PSG to complete a convincing shootout victory.

The record champions Paris Saint-Germain, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now won this competition for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
